Construction of a single-family house with a movable floor swimming pool

Thanks to its privileged position directly by the lake, this house establishes a real dialogue with the water and the mountains in the background. The specificity of this plot, apart from its rarity on the real estate market and its small size, was that it was detached from an existing property and presented a major obstacle due to the application of a 1944 cantonal extension plan governing this zone.

As a result, the space available for construction was limited, and the future structure had to be compatible with a swimming pool.

To achieve this, we had to use a variety of tricks to meet the owners' dense and tight schedule while optimizing living space, particularly in the attic.

The overall concept of the house is simple. Its configuration is based on a square geometric shape. The vertical element of the interior connections is expressed by a semicircular staircase set in the east-west axis of the building, separating the living room from the entrance to the house, thus creating the necessary and desired privacy between these two areas. This principle is also applied to the other floors of the house. The habitability of the master suite in the roof space is optimized by a "Mansard" roof, treated on its southern face as a fully glazed dormer window overlooking the lake.

The problem of fitting the pool into the limited space available was solved by attaching it to the foot of the south-facing facade. The solution was to fit it with a movable floor, so that once the pool was closed, the terrace and garden facing the lake could be fully enjoyed, creating a full-width extension of the ground-floor living area.
